The signing of former Arsenal Academy defender Tobi Omole at the weekend was confirmed by Tottenham Hotspur, although it was somewhat hidden away.
“In their Southampton match article, Spurs wrote:” Marcel Lavinier … [and] in the second half, Tobi Omole came off the bench, both players having signed contracts until the end of the season with our Under-23s.
In their match against Arsenal last week, former gunner Tobi Omole left the bench for Tottenham Hotspur u23s as part of his club trial.
Over the summer, with his deal nearing its end, Arsenal released the defender. The 20-year-old was a flexible team choice, playing last season at both left-back and center-back, but he failed to completely break into the side.
Omole made nine appearances and only five starts during the 2019/20 campaign. It wasn’t a great surprise, considering his age and the fact that he wasn’t close to the first team, to see Arsenal decide not to grow.
With Jonathan Dinzeyi going the other direction, it’s definitely an interesting situation. The other way around, almost all of the above refers to Dinzeyi.
Dinzeyi is also 20 and has made six appearances in 2019/20 for Spurs’ U 23s. Before going on a free trip to join Arsenal, he did not get very close to the first team. Like Omole, he made a bench for Saturday’s North London derby.
